Parenting Through Eating Disorder Recovery — Holiday Edition: Skills, Language & Support in the Outpatient World
Supporting your teen through eating disorder recovery can feel overwhelming—especially as holidays, travel, and school breaks approach. You may wonder when to step in, when to step back, or how to support your teen without unintentionally reinforcing the eating disorder. Changes in routines, holiday expectations, and coordinating care around time away can add another layer of uncertainty.
Join therapist Katie Metz for a practical workshop designed to help parents approach these transitions with greater clarity, confidence, and calm. Learn ways to support recovery at home and while traveling, communicate with providers and schools, and plan ahead for changes to appointments and support during winter and spring breaks.
What You Will Gain:
-
Build confidence and clarity in your role. Learn when to step in, when to step back, and how to respond to challenging behaviors without reinforcing the eating disorder. Gain practical tools for providing supportive guidance and setting healthy boundaries that promote recovery.
-
Prepare for holidays, travel, and real-life challenges. Learn concrete strategies for navigating meals, holiday gatherings, vacations, school events, and social situations. Build a plan for changes in routines and expectations so you can approach upcoming breaks with greater preparedness and calm.
-
Advocate effectively and coordinate care before breaks. Learn what questions to ask treatment providers, how to communicate with schools, and how to plan ahead for travel, provider time off, and changes to appointment schedules. Gain tools to work with your teen’s care team on a coordinated plan for continued support during holidays and school breaks.
This workshop is ideal for parents of teens in outpatient eating disorder recovery who want practical guidance for supporting their teen through holidays, travel, and winter or spring breaks.
